How it all began...Kristie's story

The idea for Recovered Living came from Kristie's personal experience with recovery. She spent 7 months in America being treated for her eating disorder at Monte Nido & Affiliates.

After returning home, the gap between being immersed in a recovery community and being in her old environment was a huge shock. She lived in a remote location and had no access to professional face-to-face support. Kristie bridged the gap by skyping with a therapist, consulting with a dietician via email and enlisting her friends for online meal support. Eventually she realized; so long as she had my laptop - there was literally a team at her fingertips.

Time and again she heard stories of relapse, insurance cuts and deaths as a result of this pervasive illness. She thought to herself, imagine if professional online support was available to people all over the world!

Kristie is gathering a team of Recovered individuals who are able to support you, no matter where you are.

Welcome to this place, where Kristie recovered, others recovered, and you can too.

You cannot tell someone's level of health by the size or shape of their body.

We do not believe in 'managing' your eating disorder behaviors. We believe in recovering fully from your eating disorder.

Recovering fully is not just about recovering your relationship with food, it is about recovering your relationship with life.

That recovery might just be the hardest thing you've ever done in your life.

It will be worth it.

What is Recovery?

We align with Carolyn Costin's definition of recovery in her book; 8 Keys to Recovery From an Eating Disorder;

"Being Recovered is when a person can accept his or her natural body size and shape and no longer has a self-destructive relationship with food or exercise. When you are recovered, food and weight take a proper perspective in your life, and what you weigh is not more important than who you are; in fact, actual numbers are of little or no importance at all. When recovered, you will not compromise your health or betray your soul to look a certain way, wear a certain size, or reach a certain number on a scale. When you are recovered, you do not use eating disorder behaviors to deal with, distract from, or cope with other problems."
